Black Shadow banging on the door of a five

Quick update on the Black Shadows progress at the weekends Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny event on the 7th of January. Steve was able to get the car into the B Final after getting past Sam Treasure and the Hemi Express in the elimination round in a paddle fest running a 6.611 @ 336.97 kph to run to Sam’s 7.023 @309.71kph. This was good enough for the 2nd spot in the B Final. In the B Final, Steve was able to run away from Pino Priolo and his 37 Chevrolet, running a new PB for both elapsed time and terminal speed. 6.044s @ 393.78 kph or 244.68mph. This beat the previous PB elapsed time that he was able to get in the compulsory qualifier earlier that day of 6.078. This follows Steve being able to get the Black shadow into the A Final of the Night of Fire event on Boxing Day but unfortunately Steve was unable to race 9-Time champ, John Zappia in the final but was called off due to rain. The third place position at this event should help Steve keep his 2nd place position in the state Top Comp championship which has be accomplished through the consistency of the 55 Chev going to finals this season.

WA Drag Racing Championship 19th November

The event was a great success for Steve and team with the car reaching new heights and running back to back personal bests. The last of which being in the B Final against Mark Chapman in his beautiful Plymouth Fury. Steve ran 6.086 @ 242mph but unfortunately narrowly lost to Chapman who dipped into the 5s for the second time of the day with a 5.990.

Steve and the team are now gearing up the Nitro Slam event on the 3rd of December at the Perth Motorplex. Hoping to break this new personal best and push further into the 6.0 second area.

2016-17 Pre Season Update

Just a quick update on the Black Shadow. We have done a lot of work into the car over the off season. Including taking some weight out of the car. New cylinder heads, wiring changes and changes to the paint. We are hoping to see everyone out at Test & Tune on Sunday or the Grand Opening on the 22nd of October at the Perth Motorplex. Big thanks to the crew and sponsors for all the hard work that has gone over the off season to try and make the Black Shadow go even quicker than we were at the end of last season.

Black Shadows 1st ANDRA T/D Meet

Just a heads up that we will be taking the “Black Shadow” 55 Belair out this Friday 9th and Saturday 10th of January for our first ANDRA Top Doorslammer meet. We think that we have a handle on some of the issues that we have been having at the start of the season and are looking forward to qualifying on Friday. ANDRA has also decided that all Top Doorslammers that don’t qualify will be given 2 exhibition runs on Saturday night so it is win-win for us and the crowds. We are guaranteed more runs and you are able to see more Doorslammer runs on Friday not just the normal three round format.

Hope to see you there and remember don’t forget to come to the pits and talk Drag Racing with Steve or the crew.

Black Shadow moving up

The Black Shadow will be after it’s Technical Inspection on the weekend into the Top Doorslammer (T/D) category which means more overdrive and more speed. The team will be at the FAST Series Racing on Saturday (10th Oct) and at the test and tune on Sunday (11th Oct). The team and car are ready and raring to go. Hope to see you at the track on the weekend or later on in the season. Steve will unfortunately only get one chance at the Pro Tree at the Pro Showdown this year as this will be the only ANDRA T/D round in Perth.

Black Shadow “Just Too Quick!”

In a sport renowned for having the quickest and fastest race cars in the world, Perth drag racer Steve Aldridge faced the challenge of taking his “Black Shadow”’55 Chevrolet quicker than the Supercharged Outlaws performance limit.

Aldridge qualified the Crown Security Outlaw in the top spot, handing him a solo pass in the first round of eliminations, but in what he labelled as a rookie mistake, he pushed the car to an astounding 6.459 second elapsed time, four thousandths of a second quicker than the 6.50 second limit.

“We were really disappointed to have made such a simple mistake, but when you consider that we’ve only done thirty passes in this car, and only seven of them have been in eliminations where we’ve had to pick our dial-in, so I guess we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves for under-predicting how well the car would go!” a jovial Aldridge said.

The Crown Security CEO is no stranger to running into the 6.40’s after licensing the car with a 6.47 at the beginning of last season in his first full-track pass down the quarter mile.

“It’s a tough decision to button off the throttle to stay slower than 6.50 when every racer at heart is in this sport to go quick!”

And despite the potential in the car to go beyond the mid-six second range, Aldridge is dismissive about stepping up to Group 2 Competition where performance limitations would be a thing of the past.

“Look we’ve by no means got a handle on this car and what it could do. Basically we’re learning race by race why it does what it does, based on what Maurice (Brennan) has showed us,” Aldridge said, giving credit to his Crown Security team mate who campaigns the World’s Quickest Commodore.”

“We’ll keep taking direction from him until we can stand on our own feet, but until then we’re happy to be enjoying our racing and living the dream!”

The Crown Security Black Shadow Chev will be at the famed Goldenstates event on November 16 and 17 at the Perth Motorplex.

Upcoming Merchandise

Hi Guys,

Thought that we would get some merchandise created for the new season after all the requests at the track during last season.

Here is the image that will be on the shirts and posters.

We should have them ready for the beginning of the season and we will post the prices later on.

The Crew.

See Us at the Westernationals – 3rd & 4th of March

After missing out on running the ’55 in the last event at the Night of Fire we are itching to get the car ready and try to get into the pointy end of the field for the second time this season. We hope see you there, cheering us on for our second win of the season.
